Blues Fall at the Cross

[b]Cork City 2 Waterford United 0[/b]Waterford United made the journey to Cork in vain as they came home emptyhanded in an entertaining local derby at Turner’s Cross. And it could all have been so different as the Blues missed two gilt edged chances in the opening five minutes that could have put a completely different compexion on the game.
Blues Ready for Munster Derby

Waterford United head to Turner’s Cross this evening for a Munster Derby that promises to be a unique experience for many of Mike Kerley’s young charges. With a rebuilding process that involved every position just a handful of players remain who have actually experienced the atmosphere of a game between the Blues and Cork City. “I’ve played in a couple of derbies myself when I was at Cork against Limerick and they are big games,” said Kerley. “The Waterford-based players in particular realise how big a game it is. Maybe the lads we have brought in haven’t quite grasped it, but they will have by Friday evening.”

Waterford United will face non league opposition in the form of Cork Side Douglas Hall in the second round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup following the draw made by Irish Boss Stephen Staunton in Drogheda this evening.The Blues have received a home draw for the tie which is scheduled for the weekend of May 28th. It is likely that the fixture will be played on Friday evening May 26th.
