St Patrick’s Athletic 1 Waterford United 1
February 3rd, 2007
Waterford United opened their pre season campaign with a one all draw at Richmond Park in a game that could quite easily have been won by the visitors.Gareth Cronin brought nineteen players to the Stadium of Light and by the end of 90 minutes all nineteen had seen action. The Supersaints were the first to register a scoring chance when Keith Fahy swept upfield and though Michael Foley got on the end of his cross and found th enet he had strayed offside. St. Pats did open the scoring on twleve minutes when former blue Alan Kirby finished off another move doen the right. However, the lead was shortlived as returning striker Vinny Sullivan displayed all the striker’s intincts as he dispossessed Barry Ryan who had received a back pass and calmly sloted the ball into an empty net.Paul McCarthy, who was lively throughout, should have done better when he skipped by a number of tackles before electing to shoot across the goal and Ryan was called into action to deny Hedderman as the Blues settled into their game.
