Transfer News

Gareth Cronin has placed Willie Bruton and Alan Reynolds on the transfer list.He has also signed former Aberdeen striker Willy John Kiely. The Irish international played club football with Abbeyside in Dungarvan before signing for Aberdeen and he was part of their Scottish Under 18 Cup winning side two years ago. He is not eligible for Sunday but comes into the squad for the game against St. Pat
Blues Visit Seagulls

Waterford United will travel to the Carlisle grounds on Sunday (KO 3pm) for a must win game against Bray Wanderers. The seagulls lie one place above the Blues in the eircom league of Ireland Premier Division and with just three points between the sides this is a proverbial six pointer.

TV Date with Bohemians

Waterford United head to Dalymount Park on Monday evening (June 25th) for a TV date with Bohemians as they search for their first away win of the season in the eircom league Premier Division. The Blues have drawn twice and lost three of their away games to date and manager Gareth Cronin is hoping for a change of fortune on Monday.
Blues Lift First Munster Senior Cup since 1987

[b]Waterford United 2 Passage United 0[/b]Waterford United claimed their first Munster Senior Cup in 20 years when they defeated Passage United in the final at Turners Cross this evening.The Blues scored in each half to lift the cup in a game where the Munster Senior League outfit more than acquitted themselves.Gareth Cronin rested some key players with Packie Holden starting between the posts while Stephen Cooling enjoyed his first full game since returning from injury while Conor McDonald started up front with Robert Brosnan.United dominated from the start as they pressurised the Cork side from the whistle but Passage absorbed the pressure and kept the Blues at bay.However a searching run from Alan Mulcahy saw him upended in the penalty area and there was never a doubt about the decision. Mulcahy picked himself up to fire the ball to the net.An injury to McDonald in the second half saw Vinny Sullivan introduced and the Dungarvan player continued his recent run of good form to slot home United’s second late in the game.
Munster Senior Cup Final Beckons For Blues

Waterford United will face Passage in the Lucozade Sport Munster Senior Cup Final at Turner’s Cross at 7.30 pm this Friday. This will be the Blues first appearance in the final since 2002/03, though United’s last win dates as far back as 1986/87. Waterford Crystal won it more recently in 1995/96, in what was a golden year at Muster level for Waterford Football with Johnville winning the Junior Cup, and Bohs winning the Youths Cup

Inclement Weather fails to Dampen Golfers

Waterford United’s Annual Golf Classic was held at Faithlegg Golf Club and despite the appalling weather the support for the club was excellent.Just three teams failed to turn up on a day where incessant rain almost caused the postponement of the event. However the excellent work of the course staff ensured that the event could go ahead and there was some fine scoring.The team from Norris’s Bar in Barrack Street took the honours with a tremendous score of 100 points.Valco Engineering were second just three points behind with the team of Martin Reid, Dermot Jacob, Walter Power and Paul Power taking third spot with 96 points.A countback to the back six was required to separate fourth and fifth with both teams on 94 points and it was Bertie Rogers team that had the better back six ahead of Pat Madigan’s team.Siobhan Furlong took the nearest the pin honours on the difficult par three sixteenth and not for the first time it was Barry Cantwell of the Geoff’s Bar team who won the longest drive.
Munster Senior Cup Final Venue Change

The venue for Friday’s Lucozade Sport Munster Senior Cup final has been changed because of the poor weather. The game will now go ahead at MFA headquarters at Turner’s Cross. The kick off remains at 7.30pm.
Supporters Bus to Munster Senior Cup Final

The Independent Blues Supporters Club will be running a bus to the final of the Lucozade Sport Munster Senior Cup final between Waterford United and Passage AFC at St Coleman’s Park in Cobh on Friday next.The bus will depart from the RSC at 5.00pm sharp.
