[B]Wexford Youths 1 Waterford United 2[/b]Waterford United made a winning start to the 2008 season against Wexford Youths at the impressive Ferrycarrig Park in a game that had a bit of everything, and the Blues started the match in great style.Kevin Waters had already tested Jason Russell in the Youths’ goal with a crisp free kick, when a flowing move down the left lead to the opening goal inside five minutes. Karl Bermingham slipped the ball through to Paul McCarthy and then, picking up the lay-off, curled a sweet effort around the ‘keeper into the top corner.
Waterford United’s opening game of the Eircom League of Ireland Cup will take place on Easter Monday March 24th at Mounthawk Park,Tralee.The Blues will face the Kerry League in their opening round which will have a 2.30pm kick off.Should the game finish level at the end of normal time there will be 2 periods of 15 minutes extra time followed by penalties if required.
