Blues bested by Shels but rue missed chances

[b]Shelbourne 2 – 0 Waterford United[/b]Waterford United lost out to much the better side tonight at Tolka Park as Anto Flood notched his second goal of the night late on which saw Shelbourne running out deserved 2-0 winners. But they will rue several missed chances during a purple patch midway through the second half which would have tied the game up and could well have lead to a different outcome.

[b]Waterford United 3 – 2 Kildare County[/b]Waterford United tonight snatched a late, late winner to down Kildare County and move back up to second place in Division 1.A near full strength Blues lined out for kick-off, as all their injured players had recovered in time for the game, which meant the four changes of last week were more-or-less reversed, Kieran Fitzgerald, Luke Fitzpatrick, Kevin Waters and Gary Dunphy making way for Stephen Quigley, Dave Warren, Paul McCarthy, and Karl Bermingham who was back from suspension.

[b]Dundalk FC 1 – 0 Waterford United[/b]Dundalk inflicted the first defeat in six games on Waterford United at Oriel Park tonight in what was a real ‘game of two halves’. The Blues struggled with the bounce and pace of the plastic pitch, and a rash of injuries and absences, but it was the half-time introduction of the lightning quick Tiarnan Mulvenna that turned the game in the home side’s favour.

Waterford United boss Gareth Cronin takes his charges to Oriel Park for the first clash between the joint league leaders this season. The Blues joined Dundalk at the top of the league following their win over Limerick 37 at the RSC last Friday and this game is seen by many as providing a benchmark for the title aspirations of both sides.

Waterford United’s trip to Tolka Park for their Eircom League First Division clash with Shelbourne has been moved back to its original date of Friday April 25th. The tie had been moved to Thursday April 24th at the request of the home club but another request by Shelbourne to revert to the original date has been approved by the eircom league.The game will have an 8pm kick off
