Blues play host to new boys Mervue
Waterford United play host to Mervue United for the first ever time this Saturday at the RSC (KO 3.00pm).
This is the first time the sides have met in any form, in what is the Galway outfit’s first league season, and so there is no past history to give any indication of how the game will pan out. Mervue, however, have made a very encouraging start to their inaugural season, and currently have 10 points to show for their 8 games to date, which includes three wins, two of them on the road!
The Blues are in scintillating form though, and go into the game full of confidence on the back of five straight victories, something they’ve not achieved for many, many years. Continue reading »
Blues take fourth away victory at Limerick
Limerick FC 0 - 2 Waterford United
Waterford United tonight made it four away wins out of four at Jackman Park, as they eventually overcame a gritty and determined Limerick side to move up to 2nd place in the First Division table. A tense, tight and remarkably close encounter was decided by two blink-and-you-missed-them moments in the second half, two defensive lapses by the home side that were ruthlessly punished by forwards at the top of their game at the moment. Confident Blues ready for tough encounter at Limerick
Waterford United travel to Limerick this Friday (KO 7.45pm) looking to extend their run of four wins on the spin.
The Blues will be also looking to avenge the 5-1 mauling at Jackman Park last October that pretty much ended their title challenge. United had dealt quite comfortably with Limerick up to that point, putting three past the Shannonsiders in the three previous meetings, but Mike Kerley’s side suddenly hit form for the last series of games that included that match. Very much like Waterford, however, it has been all change at Limerick, as alterations to the squad and management team mean that two very different sides will face each other on Friday. The Blues have a 100% away record, with three wins out of three, and Limerick, though undefeated at home, have been a touch inconsistent, beating Mervue United and Kildare County comfortably, but only managing scoreless draws against Athlone Town and Monaghan United. Blues through to MSC Final
Clonmel Town 1 – 2 Waterford United
Waterford United tonight overcame a determined Clonmel Town side in the Munster Senior Cup semi-final at Dr Pat O’Callaghan Park.
David Grincell was the star of the show, netting twice for the Blues, but he was ably assisted by a man-of-the-match performance from Declan Woodgate at left back. On 27 minutes Grincell forced a fine save from the Clonmel keeper after Kevin Waters crossed, and the same player glanced an exquisite header to put United ahead from Woodgate’s resultant corner. EA Sports Cup 2 Rd Confirmed
Blues One Step From Final

Waterford United will be looking for their second Lucozade Sport Munster Senior Cup final appearance in three years when they head to Dr. Pat O Callaghan Park in Clonmel on Wednesday for the semi final of this year’s cup.
The Blues are riding high on a wave of confidence following their recent run of league results that has delivered 12 points from 12 as well as 12 goals!
Waterford’s demolition of Monaghan United last week was particularly satisfying for Graham Cummins, the gamekeeper turned poacher who has charged to the top of the First Division goalscoring charts with 6 goals in 2 games.
He may get a rest on Wednesday which could pave the way for a David Grincell start while manager Stephen Henderson is also expected to give runs to Declan Woodgate and Paul Carey.
The Blues’ boss has one suspension issue with Kieran Fitzgerald ruled out following his dismissal in the quarter final victory over Passage AFC.
The game will be decided on the night with extra time and penalties required if necessary to determine who will meet Rockmount in this year’s final.
