Waterford United are delighted to announce that they have completed the loan signing of Stephen Mulcahy from Cork City.

The versatile 24-year-old Cork native has been signed on loan until the end of the season, and it is expected that, pending registration, he will go straight into the squad for tomorrow night’s game at home to Limerick FC.

A composed and assured defender, Stephen can play at right back or centre back, and is also at home in midfield. He began his league career at Cork City, before a spell with local rivals Cobh Ramblers. Returning to his home club he established himself as a first team regular towards the end of 2009 and into the following year, earning him call up to Paul Doolin’s Rep of Ireland U23 side, where he won two caps, one against England at the RSC.

Unfortunately lengthy injury spells kept him out of the side for most of last season, but this year he is very much back and looking forward to forcing his way into contention for first team action.
