Waterford United 1 Galway United 3Waterford United fell to Galway United at Blarney by three goals to one on Saturday evening. Following the late withdrawal of the home side Blarney United from their proposed game with Waterford United to mark the opening of their new Astroturf pitch, Gareth Cronin succeeded in persuading Tony Cousins to bring his Galway United side to Tower, near Blarney in Co. Cork for the second friendly of the season. The first half saw Galway United in control for long periods and it was Derek Glynn who grabbed two goals, one resulting from a mix up in the Waterford rearguard and the second saw the Mayo man finish impressivly in a one on one situation.John Russell finished off a training ground move, resulting from a free kick, to take the tribesmen’s tally to three. However, a much improved second half perfromance including an excellent free kick from Kevin Waters reduced the defecit. But the Blues couldn’t find more goals.
