Interview With A Blues Fan: John Barrett
(first published in the June 2009 Carrigaline United FAI Cup programme)
Who or what first got you supporting the Blues? The joy of supporting your own local team
Can you remember your first match? Think it was a 1-0 defeat to UCD in 1994, didn’t start going seriously til ’96 though
How often would you get to the RSC? Every time we play there!
Any improvements you’d like to see to the ground? No running track!
Any improvements to the matchday experience? More banners set up round the stands
How many away trips would you make a season? Used to make a couple a season, now only the close ones like Wexford/Cork
Favourite away ground? Hate to say it but Cork City (Turner’s Cross)
Best ever away trip? Any time we have beaten Cork on their own pitch, also beating Bohs 1-0 in 1999
Favourite current Blues player: Kenny Browne
Favourite all-time Blues player: Daryl Murphy
What current league player would you like to see in a blue shirt? Would love to see Alan Kirby or Shane Robinson wear the blue
Best moment as a Blues fan? Seeing the Blues play at Landsdown Road in the FAI Cup final
And the worst? Being relegated by Kilkenny Town in the play off
What’s your funniest memory of supporting United? Beating Shamrock Rovers to send them into the relegation play off (which they lost!)
