Inclement Weather fails to Dampen Golfers
June 21st, 2007
Waterford United’s Annual Golf Classic was held at Faithlegg Golf Club and despite the appalling weather the support for the club was excellent.Just three teams failed to turn up on a day where incessant rain almost caused the postponement of the event. However the excellent work of the course staff ensured that the event could go ahead and there was some fine scoring. The team from Norris’s Bar in Barrack Street took the honours with a tremendous score of 100 points.Valco Engineering were second just three points behind with the team of Martin Reid, Dermot Jacob, Walter Power and Paul Power taking third spot with 96 points.A countback to the back six was required to separate fourth and fifth with both teams on 94 points and it was Bertie Rogers team that had the better back six ahead of Pat Madigan’s team.Siobhan Furlong took the nearest the pin honours on the difficult par three sixteenth and not for the first time it was Barry Cantwell of the Geoff’s Bar team who won the longest drive.
